If you ask our children which of the animals can change color, I think everyone will no doubt answer that these are Chameleons. Yes, that’s right – it is. Today we will paint these creatures of nature, and you can choose any color of the coloring, because these are chameleons 🙂
And so, we present you interesting facts about chameleons.
The length of large species of these animals is about 60 cm, and the smallest – about 5. There is an opinion that the chameleon changes its color depending on the environment. But that’s a lie. The color of a chameleon depends only on its mood, lighting and state of health, and all the coincidences of the color of the animal with its immediate environment is just an accident.
These reptiles are also able to change their color after clashes with creatures of their own kind, when meeting with an animal of the opposite sex, as well as in case of severe fright.
Chameleon eyes are amazing – they can move and focus independently of each other, which is simply unattainable for our eyes.
Chameleons, like other reptiles, are cold-blooded, but surprisingly, with a decrease in external temperature, the speed of the tongue firing almost does not decrease.
About half of all known chameleon species live in Madagascar, and 59 species of local chameleons are no longer found in any region of the Earth. The total number of species exceeds 160.
The chameleon’s tongue is able to grab prey as quickly as possible – in 0.07 seconds. The tip of this amphibian consists of muscles that form a small lump. Upon reaching food, these bumps become suckers.
The paws of the animal have five large fingers, united in a group of 2 or 3 fingers. Thanks to such paws-tongs, these nice “guys” are great at climbing trees.
Males are brighter in color than females. In addition, they have additional “decorations” both on the face and on the head in the form of a ridge or protrusions.
Chameleons love the sun very much – under its gentle rays they become very active and cheerful.
